'My Friend Pinto' is the new mad-cap comedy in theaters!
It stars Pratiek Babbar as Michael Pinto.
It stars Pratiek Babbar as Michael Pinto.
It also stars Kalki Koechlin, Arjun Mathur, Shruti Seth, Divya Dutt, Makrand Deshpande, Raj Zutshi and the Haji Bothers.
It's produced by Ronnie Screwvala & Sanjay Leela Bhansali, co-written by Raghav Dar & Arun Sukumar, and, is directed by Raghav Dar.
Gargey Trivedi has done the cinematography, and the music of the film has been scored by Ajay-Atul.
It's different from the run-of-the-mill comedies that Bollywood is famous for. Rather, it would remind you of oldies like 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro'.
However, the film mixes various styles of comedy, beginning from low-key humor to the slapstick version, which discerning viewers might not approve of.
One can enjoy the film largely for Prateik Babbar, who plays the lead, and for the songs sung by Kunal Ganjawala, which are enriched by the lyrics of Amitabh Bhattacharya.
Can't blame the critics who say that the innumerable characters and the mutually unwinding dramatic situations undo much of the film's magical simplicity and warmth.
Further, I suspect a high-handed editing out of digressions in the plot-line for the benefit of smooth flow of the narrative, in the voiceover mode, which in its turn has made the film lacklustre, not allowing us to gel with all the characters.
Yet, I must say, some of the scenes and sequences leave quite an impression on the viewer, at least they did on me.
Last words: I would love to see more of the Prateik-Kalki pairing in the future (I'm sure many would agree with me).

I wish the fragmented bits had more cohesion and the screenplay did away with the random cliches, the film would have really been a good one in that case. Prateik and Kalki were good as always, and, I agree, they looked good as a pair too.
ReplyDeleteI almost loved this film..... I say almost because of the glitches in the narration, but Prateik and Kalki more than made up for the goof-up in the direction deptt. by their cool presence.
